The Challenge.
Navigating Remote Work in a Creative Environment
Julian Adams, the IT Director at Immediate Media, has collaborated with Jonathan Lyons at Colyer for quite some time, addressing the company’s creative software requirements. During a post-pandemic meeting, Julian expressed concerns about the challenges of remote work within a creative company.
Before the pandemic, Immediate Media’s creative workflows primarily relied on on-premises infrastructure, with most employees working from office environments. However, the sudden shift to remote work during the pandemic highlighted several shortcomings, including difficulties in working with large media files, collaborating on projects, and increased cybersecurity risks associated with operating outside the office network.
Julian explained that Immediate Media’s creative teams extensively use large media files. Waiting for these files to upload and download became impractical and hindered their productivity. It was clear that a change was necessary.
Immediate Media has several hundred users in their editorial design team who use Adobe Creative Cloud for content creation and collaboration, traditional file syncing solutions like Microsoft SharePoint and Google Drive were unsuitable due to their inability to support file-locking semantics used by Adobe apps and the requirement for complete file downloads before working on them. Julian sought a cloud-based solution to address these challenges.
Our Solution.
LucidLink Filespaces for Remote Collaboration and Team Communications
Colyer introduced LucidLink as the ideal solution for Immediate Media’s needs. LucidLink is a cutting-edge file system specifically designed for modern cloud-computing environments. It enables users to stream data directly from the cloud, eliminating the need for time-consuming downloads or synchronizations.
With LucidLink, Immediate Media’s creative teams gained access to a shared space where they could seamlessly collaborate in real time using their preferred creative tools. Regardless of their location, team members could work together as if they were in the same room, instantly accessing new assets and project changes as soon as their teammates saved them in the shared Filespace. LucidLink’s unparalleled responsiveness allowed them to access files of any size without delays or the need for local downloads or syncing, freeing up valuable time for creative work.
Benefits, Results,
and Improvements.
One of the standout features of LucidLink was its straightforward sign-on process and ease of use, which immediately impressed the Immediate Media team. LucidLink’s robust security measures, including data encryption both locally and in the cloud, played a crucial role in gaining approval for the solution.
By implementing LucidLink, Immediate Media eliminated the tedious process of downloading files and saved significant storage space. The LucidLink system seamlessly integrated into their hybrid workflows, enabling a seamless transition between on-premises and cloud-based work.
Customer Feedback & Comments.
“After a rapid company-wide migration to LucidLink, Immediate Media’s editorial in design teams quickly adapted to the new system. Users picked LucidLink up very quickly. The sign-on process was straightforward, and Filespaces were presented in a standardised manner, requiring very little training”
“The second phase involved moving the creative teams responsible for video content. However, this process was straightforward since LucidLink had already proven its effectiveness for the editorial in design teams.
Immediate Media’s creative teams, responsible for producing website content, videos, and print titles, now all rely on LucidLink for their daily operations. As the company embraces a hybrid working policy, ensuring remote employees have the same access to project files as those in the office is critical. Access is managed by dividing content into teams, with each team restricted to its respective”
