Print plays a vital role in government messaging
Today, we see schools closing for an unconfirmed amount of time. Rumours of London being put on hard lock down and public transport systems closing means people who live outside of London are no longer travelling into the city for work.
In 1939 this poster was issued by the Ministry of Health when bombing of the urban areas of Britain was predicted. It was used to encourage mother’s to do the best for their children by keeping them out of cities. By the end of the war the number of people who had experienced some kind of evacuation was 3.5million. Most of them were children but this also included some elderly and vulnerable.
This message is equally as important for us today. The governments decision to close schools is hard for so many. We wonder how we will care for our families and still work to maintain an income. The saving grace? Our children are here with us and we are not having to send them away to the unknown. Ultimately what is most important is that we all stay safe, that we do everything we can to protect the vulnerable and that we support each other.
